Ahmedabad Sessions Court allows Hardik Patel to move out of Gujarat from March 8 to 22

The Ahmedabad Sessions Court on Friday granted interim relief to Gujarat Congress working president – Hardik Patel to move outside Gujarat between March 8 to March 22, 2021.

Hardik Patel through his advocate Rafik Lokhandwala had filed a plea before the Ahmedabad Sessions court seeking the modification in the bail condition for an interim period as the applicant was required to travel to Delhi and other places between March 8 and March 22, 2021. The court allowed the plea filed by the Congress leader.

Earlier Gujarat High Court had granted permission to Hardik Patel to travel outside Gujarat between November 11 to December 2, 2020, for 17 days.

The case against Hardik Patel

Earlier an arrest warrant was issued against Hardik Patel after he failed to remain present before the court. Following his arrest, he was granted bail and one of the bail conditions was that he should not leave Gujarat without the court’s permission.

The state opposed the plea stating that Patel had the time and again failed to remain present before the court despite a court’s order. The state argued that this shows a careless attitude towards the court and his application should be rejected.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch registered a sedition case against Hardik for violence in several places in the state after a rally during the Patidar agitation in August 2015. The Gujarat High Court granted him bail in July 2016.
