As Ahmedabad gears up for the civic body polls, the Gomtipur area in the city saw protests against Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar. A crowd gathered and threw slippers on the posters of Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar later on Monday night.
Earlier Gujarat Women Congress’ vice-president Sonal Patel had alleged that candidature for the upcoming civic body polls in the city was sold for lakhs of rupees. She accused MLA Himmatisinh Patel and Shailesh Parmar of selling tickets for Rs20 lakh each. She later tendered her resignation from the party.
Accusations against Congress MLAs
Jamalpur MLA Imran Khedawala had also resigned from the party although GPCC president Amit Chavda has not accepted the resignation. Khedawala is, however, adamant about putting in his papers. The Congress legislator was reportedly unhappy with the party leadership for ignoring local youngsters particularly his workers in the distribution of tickets for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections.
Many NSUI workers who did not get a ticket also began protests outside the party’s office in the city after names for the civic body elections came to be known. They had accused Imran Khedawala and Gyasuddin Sheikh of being biased in ticket distribution. Around 750 NSUI candidates have reportedly resigned from the party.
The Gujarat Congress has seen a slew of protests and allegations after it announced the names of candidates for the civic body polls. Fearing protests, the party did not release a list of candidates and personally informed them instead.
