COVID cases in Gujarat reached a whopping 5,011 cases per day in the last 24 hours while 2,525 patients were discharged during the same period. Forty nine deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.
Fifteen deaths each were reported from Surat Municipal Corporation and 14 from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits. Four fatalities were recorded from Vadodara Municipal Corporation and eight from Rajkot Municipal Corporation. Ahmedabad and Surendrangar district recorded two cases each. Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar district, Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and Surat recorded one case each.
The state at present has 25,129 active cases of which 192 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,12,151 patients while the fatality stands at 4,746.
Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 1,409 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 913 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 239 cases.
Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 287 and 462 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 48 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 91.27%.
Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.42 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 81,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 73,000 cases and Vadodara over 38,000 cases.
COVID vaccination in the state
So far over 78.71 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 10.31 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 89 lakh people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.
In the last 24 hours, 2.34 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 43,474 people in the age group got the second dose of vaccine today. Vaccination for those above 45 years of age has begun from April 1 onwards.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation saw 38.393 COVID vaccines being given in a day, the highest in Gujarat. Banaskantha had vaccinated 20,120 people while Surat Municipal Corporation saw 18,839 people getting the shots.
