The efforts of doctors at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad helped save a premature baby, who was the first child to be born to a couple after 18 years of marriage.

Kokilaben, a resident of Jashodanagar in the city, had been childless for the last 18 years. The woman got pregnant five times during the period but lost it after suffering miscarriage every time. In the year 2020, she again fell pregnant, six years after her last pregnancy.

Unfortunately, the 42-year-old suffered labour pains in November 20292, when she was only six months into her pregnancy. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and suffered a premature rupture of the membrane resulting in her water breaking.

A cesarean section was performed and Kokilaben delivered a baby that weighed just 1 kg.

The baby was put in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit of the Civil Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Bela Shah and Dr. Sonu Akhanena, the baby survived. The baby was in intensive care for 51 days.

On Friday, Kokilaben and her child were discharged from the hospital. It should be noted that the survival of premature babies like the one delivered by Kokilaben is very difficult unless they get timely medical help.
