Given that the civic body polls have been announced for the state, there is a buzz that an announcement about the night curfew in place in four major cities of Gujarat may be soon made. If sources are to be believed, either the night curfew may be lifted, or else the timing for the same will be extended given the civic polls.

Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara all have a night curfew in place to control the spread of COVID-19. Sources said the drop in overall COVID cases in the state may also help in relaxing the night curfew norms in these cities.

All four cities will see elections for the municipal corporations in February. Sources said relaxation in night curfew will help political parties organise night meetings with their voters. The state is also hoping that it will also negate the impact of police’s high handedness in implementing the night curfew.
