Civic body polls: Congress forms damage control committee to prevent exodus of leaders, workers

Congress has announced the formation of a damage control committee to look into the grievances of its leaders and workers. The step comes as the party saw an exodus of several local-level leaders in Gujarat after the civic body polls were announced.

But the buzz in the party is that the damage control committee also has members who themselves are in touch with the BJP!

The party has seen its leaders and workers flocking to the BJP every time a poll is announced. Every time a leader or worker shifts to BJP the allegation is that their woes remained unaddressed in Congress.

The damage control committee is aimed at stopping the exodus and also addressing the concerns of both local level leaders and workers.

Rajiv Satav, Gujarat in-charge has said that the tickets for the local body polls will be given to those who are loyal to the party and won’t shift sides once they win on a Congress ticket.

Civic body polls: Congress worried about Vadodara

The Congress is also worried that many of its workers and leaders in Vadodara may also shift sides as the BJP has vowed to win all the 76 seats in the local body polls.

The party believes that the BJP is eyeing some of its leaders to ensure that it wins all the 76 seats.

The committee also has a significant representation of top leaders from the party’s Vadodara unit.

Gujarat Congress’ Vadodara head Prashant Patel attacked the BJP stating that it is incapable of winning on its own and hence is eyeing corporators from the Congress. Patel said the committee has been formed to ensure that concerns of local leaders are addressed and they don’t have to quit the party because of it.
