After contesting election from six seats of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), 20 more candidates of AIMIM have filed their nomination form for the taluka and district panchayat elections in Modasa and Godhra Nagarpalika.
In the second phase of the civic body polls in Gujarat, the party is contesting from these two towns in the eastern belt of Gujarat.
AIMIM’s 12 candidates from Modasa and 8 from Godhra have filed their nominations for the respective nagarpalikas in the state. AIMIM is contesting from three wards of Modasa Nagarpalika and six wards of Godhra Nagarpalika in the eastern belt of Gujarat. Both Godhra and Modasa have a large number of minority-dominated localities.
Apart from this, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi will visit Modasa and Godhra on February 23. He will address a public meeting in both the cities in the evening.
AIMIM: How will it perform?
The result of the first phase of Gujarat Civic polls in which six municipal corporations went to polls will be declared tomorrow. AIMIM’s performance in the civic body polls is being keenly watched by other parties.
In the AMC, Owaisi’s party is contesting from 21 seats of six wards.
This is the second time that Owaisi is visiting the state since the announcement of polls. The party’s national spokesperson Waris Pathan and MP Imtiayaz Jaleel campaigned in Ahmedabad, Godhra, and Modasa for the party.
The low voter turnout in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation election has caused a bit of nervousness among political parties.
