A Central team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is in Surat as the city’s COVID situation worsens. The team has come to take stock of the situation.
The team met the SMC commissioner, Surat District Collector, and other senior state government officials. The team sought information on testing, tracing, and treatment and also the number of containment zones in the city and district.
Surat district collector Dr. Dhaval Patel said the situation can turn further grim as the pace at which cases were being reported was a matter of concern.
He said patients who needed oxygen support were on the rise and urged the people not to step out in public unless needed. He also said that relatives of patients need not go hunting for injections as it was the duty of the hospital to access them and if hospitals forced relatives to get injections then action will be taken against them.
BJP MLA Harsh Sanghvi accuses govt docs in Surat of shirking work
BJP MLA Harsh Sanghvi has alleged that the medical staff and doctors were shirking duty even as the city battles the COVID pandemic. Harsh Sanghvi argued that medical staff in COVID hospitals in the city were being negligent and that many doctors instead of being present in COVID wards for duty were sitting in their cabins.
He said in the New Civil Hospital several doctors were working overtime to help patients and many were shirking work and sitting in their cabins in the old building to escape having to report to duty.
He warned that such doctors were being observed and action will be taken against them when the time comes. The MLA also helped a couple talk to each other. One of them had been under treatment while the other had been struggling to talk to his spouse via video call.
