The Cyber Crime has nabbed three people operating a call centre for duping American citizens by offering them cheap loans to help them improve their credit scores. The three were nabbed from behind Alogiya Hotel in Jagatpur.
The accused Bharatsinh Mandol used three people to run the call centre that was duping American citizens. The call centre operators posed as employees of an American loan company and through dialer software and a device called magic jack ensured that a US number was displayed whenever they called their potential victims.
Cops nabbed Bhratsinh Mandol, Akhilesh Nayar, and Ajay Sonawne following a tip-off.
Cops said Bharatsinh Mandol would give the other two the numbers on which the calls were to be made They would pose as employees of an American loan company and would lure victims with the promise of a better credit score as the loans were very cheap.
They would then charge a transaction fee for the victims. They would often get the fee in the form of a gift card which Bharatisnh Mandol would get converted into cash.
After the trio was nabbed they were tested for COVID following which it emerged that Bharatsinh Mandol was COVID positive. He was moved to Civil Hospital for treatment.
However, though the police have managed to nab the operators, the ones who are processing the finances in the operation are yet to be nabbed.
Earlier cases of such call centers being nabbed have revealed that the brains behind the operations rarely get caught. Many call centres have been busted in Ahmedabad itself this year alone.
