Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has appealed to the State Election Commission (SEC) to defer the polls to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) scheduled to be held on April 18.
Rupani in a letter to the body said that if the polls continue the state capital will see gatherings. A lot of state government employees will also be pressed into poll duty and such gatherings can aggravate the already serious COVID situation in the state.
Rupani requested the SEC to defer the polls in the larger public interest.
