Civic Body Polls: BJP’s Legal Cell on stand by mode

The Gujarat BJP has put its legal cell on stand by mode for the upcoming municipal corporation elections in the state. Many times a candidate’s name is rejected by the election commission due to errors in the candidature form or due to some or other legal issues.

To ensure that BJP’s selected candidates are not rejected, the party has made a team of 500 lawyers and notaries to provide all legal help to candidates whose names will be announced.

The party has assigned two layers and a notary for each of the wards in municipal corporations. Although the party is yet to announce the names of its candidates the party’s legal cell conveners JJ Patel and election cell convener Parindu Bhagat have put in place a system to ensure that candidates don’t face legal hurdles while filling the form.

BJP’s legal cell convener JJ Patel said that the legal cell had been active for the last 20 days given the civic body elections and zone-wise meetings were also held for the same. The team of lawyers will help candidates fill forms and scrutinize it before it is submitted.

As for taluka level polls, each taluka will have a team of five lawyers and two notaries to help the candidates. The nagarpalikas will have a team of two lawyers and one notary for each ward. The BJP has been using this strategy for a long.
