BJP’s new rules for civic body polls will hit its AMC women corporators hard

The BJP Parliamentary Board’s decision to not give tickets to those over 60 years of age in the upcoming civic body polls will heavily impact women corporators in Ahmedabad the most. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has 14 women corporators who are 60 years and more. Nine male corporators have crossed 60 years of age.

Sources in the know said the problem for women corporators is that though they have joined young as party workers most got tickets only after they crossed 50 years of age and before they could hold any position of importance they have now been barred from contesting civic body polls for crossing 60 years.
