Vishal Mistry, Rajpipla: The BJP and Congress has announced its candidates for several seats for the civic body polls in the nagarpalikas and panchayats that will go to polls in February-end.

As the battle heats up, the BJP in Rajpipla is facing some protests particularly among workers who are angry that imports from Congress have been given tickets while loyal workers have been ignored.

Earlier, Narmada districts BJP minority cell secretary Irfan Arab had filed his nomination as an independent, angry with the party over ignoring him for a ticket.

Now, Narmada district’s BJP women wing secretary Manisha Gandhi and Nandod taluka’s women wing secretary Saroj Tadvi have filed their nomination from ward no 5 and 7 respectively as independents.

BJP’s own workers contesting as independents will likely make the battle difficult for the Saffron party. Former Rajpipla nagarpalika chief Alkeshsinh Gohil’s son Kuldeep Gohil has also filed his nomination from Ward no 6 as a BJP candidate as well as an independent too.

What are BJP workers angry about?

Speaking about their decision to contest as independents, BJP’s women wing secretary Manish Gandhi said she has been with the BJP since 1999.

“I have attended every meeting of the BJP  and have fulfilled my responsibilities to the party. Last time too, I had sought a ticket and was denied the same. This time too my request to contest from Ward no 5 was denied,” said Gandhi.

She said the the seat from which she had sought a ticket was for general category women candidate yet it was was given to a tribal candidate. She said she will resign from the party if it asks her to do so . “I will not withdraw my nomination,” she asserted.

Nandod taluka BJP women wing secretary Saroj Tadvi has accused the top BJP leaders of selling tickets and ignoring party workers who have worked for the party for so long.

“The tickets are being sold to the highest bidder. I made a representation to the Narmada district president Gahanshyam Patel and he said the decisions are taken at the top,” said Tadvi.
