Civic body polls: BJP announces candidates names for 18 wards of Rajkot Municipal Corporation

The BJP has announced the name of its list of candidates for the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) civic body polls. This is the first list to be released by the Saffron Party for the civic body polls. It has announced names for 18 wards of the RMC. It has in all announced names of 72 candidates (four names each for every ward).

The announcement comes after the BJP concluded its Parliamentary Board meeting. Party’s Gujarat president CR Patil earlier in a press conference said that the party has finalized the names of candidates and would announce it by Thursday evening.

What BJP said about candidate names

He had said that in all 60-70 workers had sought tickets for the 576 seats. He said the party would announce the list of all candidates for the six municipal corporation election by Thursday evening. The candidates are expected to begin filling the application form from 12.30 Fridays onwards.

He said the party workers have also welcomed the BJP’s decision not to give tickets to those who are over 60 years of age, are relatives of BJP leaders, and have had three terms.

The party had said that the list of candidates for Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar municipal corporations will be released first. The names of candidates for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be released by late evening.

The local body elections or civic body polls in Gujarat will be held in two phases. In the first phase of the civic body elections on February 21, polls will be held for municipal corporations. The results for the same will be declared on February 23.
