Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Narhari Amin has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been admitted to UN Mehta Hospital for further treatment.
Narhari Amin tweeted about his COVID-19 positive status and urged those who came in touch with him to isolate themselves.
98 new patients were admitted to the Civil Hospital in one day as the city saw a spike in COVID-19 cases during Diwali.
Apart from Narhari Amin, several top leaders of both the Congress and BJP have tested positive for COVID-19 so far.
It should be noted that Diwali saw a surge in the crowd on city streets as people gathered to shop and celebrate throwing caution to the wind and violating social distancing and COVID-19 norms.
Bapunagar Congress MLA Himmatsinh Patel has also tested positive for the disease. Earlier Congress MLA Imran Khedawal and Visavadar MLA Harshad Ribadiya had also tested positive and recovered.
COVID-19 in state
It should be noted that Gujarat has seen over 1.86 lakh cases of COVID-19 so far with the state seeing 1,152 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
The state also saw six fatalities due to the disease during the same period.
Of the total deaths in Ahmedabad, two were in AMC limits and one in SMC. With this, the Gujarat COVID-19 fatalities stand at 3,791.
The addition of three fatalities reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 1,934. The death toll has increased to 868 in Surat, whereas it remains 212 for Vadodara and 96 for Gandhinagar.
Surat city saw 140 new cases being recorded while 46 were reported from the district. Similarly, the Ahmedabad Corporation area had 190 new cases while it was 29 in the district.
