The Riverfront Police that nabbed Arif Khan, the husband of Ayesha who committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati, has reportedly learned that he used to beat his wife.
Ayesha had talked to her husband before she jumped into the Sabarmati Arif had allegedly encouraged her to commit suicide. After she killed herself, Arif, who was at a wedding in Rajasthan, had escaped. Later the Riverfront Police managed to nab the accused and bring him to Ahmedabad. The police are likely to seek remand of the accused.
Earlier Ayesha’s father had alleged that she had suffered a miscarriage after Arif hit her while she was pregnant.
Sources in the know said Arif was not happy with his wife and had relations with another woman. He had also reportedly told Ayesha about the same. Sources said Arif called her the ‘spare wheel’ and that he would talk with the other woman while his wife was present.
Ayesha Banu Makrani, 23, who worked for the ICCI Bank’s mutual fund division in Ahmedabad and was also a final year postgraduate student of MA in SV College of Ahmedabad committed suicide on February 23 by jumping into the Sabarmati river.
Ayesha recorded a message before suicide but did not blame her husband. She said that she was not committing suicide because of any pressure, but she is going to meet Allah, the almighty. But in an audio Ayesha has blamed her husband for exploiting her and demanding more dowry.
Ayesha was married to Aarif in July 2018, but for the past year, she was living with her parents. She was allegedly tortured by Aarif and his family and once for three days she was not served any food. She informed her father about the maltreatment.
