Ayesha suicide: 3 houses, 4 shops in Rajasthan, yet Arif wanted dowry from his wife


Police questioning of Arif, the husband of Ayesha, has revealed that he is quite well off and has three houses and four shops in Rajasthan. Despite this, he used to seek dowry from Ayesha and beat her for it.

Investigations have revealed that Arif earned Rs50,000 a month. Arif and his father used to work in a mining factory in Jalore in Rajasthan. The family still demanded money from Ayesha’s father when he was unable to pay, they used to abuse her.

Ayesha’s father had once paid them Rs2.5 lakh as dowry but they had been demanding more. The police are now probing whether there was anyone else who was involved in the abetment to suicide case.

Sources said Arif has not shown remorse over Ayesha’s suicide and neither did he appear to be saddened by her death.

Ayesha suicide case

A local court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday had granted remand of three days to accused husband Aarif Khan, who allegedly abetted the suicide of his wife Aayesha Makrani (23).

The accused husband who was on run after the suicide was held by the Gujarat Police from Pali in Rajasthan.

The police submitted before the court that they needed the accused’s remand to probe where he has hidden his mobile phone. They said they also need to find out where he had been living and who had been helping him.

The accused allegedly had an affair with another woman, the police have said. It is also alleged that Ayesha’s in-laws suspected her of being immoral. Although it is yet to be investigated.

Ayesha died by suicide after making a video in which she told of being harassed by her husband. After the video went viral on social media her husband was booked under various sections of IPC including abetment of suicide.
