Home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja made a mention of the Ayesha suicide case which also found its way into the assembly. Jadeja in a statement said that the video that Ayesha shot before jumping into the Sabarmati is a chilling one and such acts as those committed against the woman should not be tolerated.
Earlier the girl’s father had sought a special investigation into the case and had also demanded a speedy trial. The family had also sought a death sentence for Ayesha’s husband- Arif.
After Arif was arrested, it was found that his mobile had been missing. He allegedly confessed to leaving it with a relative and police have recovered it. Both Arif and Ayesha’s mobile has been sent to FSL.
In the year 2020, she had filed a case of dowry against her husband and in-laws, and Arif and his family had been arrested. Later Arif was released on bail.
Ayesha suicide background
Ayesha died by suicide after making a video in which she told of being harassed by her husband. After the video went viral on social media her husband was booked under various sections of IPC including abetment of suicide. Her husband had been absconding but was later nabbed by the police.
Arif allegedly had an affair with another woman, the police have said. It is also alleged that Ayesha’s in-laws suspected her of being immoral. Although it is yet to be investigated.
Investigations have revealed that Arif earned Rs50,000 a month. Arif and his father used to work in a mining factory in Jalore in Rajasthan. The family still demanded money from the woman’s father when he was unable to pay, they used to abuse her.
Ayesha’s father had once paid them Rs2.5 lakh as dowry but they had been demanding more. The police are now probing whether there was anyone else who was involved in the abetment to suicide case.
Sources said Arif has not shown remorse over Ayesha’s suicide and neither did he appear to be saddened by her death.
