The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested a man from Mumbai with 1kg methamphetamine (MD drugs) from Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The drugs are believed to be worth Rs5 crore in the international market.
The man Mohammad Sultan Shaikh, a resident of Jogeshwari in Mumbai was arrested near a temple in the Shahibaug area of the city.
Shaikh told cops that he was to supply the drugs to a man in Ahmedabad.
Police were tipped off about the deal. The drugs were sent to Mumbai by one Waseem Khadim of Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, officials said.
Shaikh travelled in a bus to reach Ahmedabad and he was to hand over the bag to a person who would contact him. Cops are further investigating the matter.
Other MD drugs case
In September Surat police nabbed a man with MD/Meth drugs worth Rs1 crore. The Surat Crime Branch nabbed the youth from Dumas area in the city with MD/ Meth drugs worth Rs1 crore.
In September, five people including an ASI with the Danilimda police station were arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch for smuggling Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MD/Meth) drugs worth Rs 1 crore.
The cop and two of his associates were travelling in a Maruti Alto car when they were intercepted at a toll plaza on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway. Cops found MD/Meth drug on them. The accused were travelling from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
In August, the Gujarat ATS and Ahmedabad Crime branch arrested four people with methamphetamine (MD/Meth) drugs and opium worth Rs 25 lakh from Siddhpur in Patan.
The drugs were being smuggled from Rajasthan to Ahmedabad. The police seized meth weighing 245 grams worth Rs 24.53 lakh and 488 grams of opium worth Rs 48,800 in the operation.
