Ashok Gehlot criticises Kapil Sibal over his ‘Congress in decline comment’

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday criticised his colleague, Congress leader Kapil Sibal’s open criticism of the party leadership after the Bihar debacle.

Ashok Gehlot in a series of tweets said there was no need for Sibal to mention internal issues in the media. He said after every electoral loss, the party stood undivided and firm with the party leadership and emerged stronger from each crisis.

Sibal’s criticism after the party’s poor performance in Bihar has once again brought to fore the leadership issues in the party. This comes three months after the party called a meeting on the issued.

“There was no need for Kapil Sibal to mention our internal issue in the media, this has hurt the sentiments of party workers across the country,” Ashok Gehlot said in his tweets.

He said the party had come out stronger after every crisis under Sonia Gandhi and this time too that will be the case.

“Every time we came out stronger due to our ideology, programs, policies and firm belief in the party leadership. We have improved with every crisis and also formed the UPA government in 2004 under the leadership of Soniaji, we shall overcome this time too,” Ashok Gehlot wrote.

What Kapil Sibal said about Congress

Sibal had earlier today said that the Congress needs to realise it was on the decline and ‘experienced minds, experienced hands and those who understand political realities’ were needed to revive the organisation.

The ‘time for introspection is over’, Sibal told the Indian Express in an interview that he also tweeted.

“We need to do several things at several levels – organisationally, articulation in the media in whatever form, putting up people who the people want to listen to, providing active, thoughtful leaders who can articulate with a lot of circumspection,” said Sibal.
