Former mayor & ex-Vasna corporator Amit Shah is the new Ahmedabad BJP president

Former Ahmedabad Mayor Amit Shah has been made Ahmedabad BJP president. The post was held by Jagdish Panchal. Anil Patel has been appointed as the Gandhinagar BJP president.

Amit Shah’s name comes after the former mayor had in February this year expressed his displeasure over the BJP’s new rules about eligibility for civic body polls in Gujarat.

The BJP had during the civic body polls announced that it will not give tickets to those who have finished three terms and also relatives of BJP leaders. Amit Shah was angry with the party as he had sought a ticket for his son.

Amit Shah had reportedly asked for a ticket for his son but after the BJP’s announcement, it was speculated that Shah’s son will not get a ticket. “My son is Vasna-in charge and secretary of the party’s unit in the city. If the party does not give a ticket to my son it is fine, we will try to remove Vasna wards’ seats. His only fault is that he is my son,” Shah reportedly said before the announcement of names for the AMC civic body polls.

The BJP had said that relatives of BJP leaders will not be given tickets for the civic body polls. It had also said no to candidates above the age of 60 and those who have had three-term as members of the civic body.

The decision was taken at the BJP’s Parliamentary Board meeting attended by chief minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, and BJP state president CR Patil.
