The COVID pandemic has hit the AMC hard financially and if sources are to be believed its finances are in a precarious state. Sources said that the grants for the AMC had not been released bills of several contractors who rendered services to various departments of the civic body are yet to be cleared.
Sources said the AMC has already cleared the bills but they are yet to be paid by the finance department of the civic body. Contractors who had been patient till now are getting restless as dues pile up, the sources said.
They said in all, Rs500 crore worth of bills are pending in various departments including Solid waste, drainage among others. The lack of payment is now being reflected in the various services being rendered by the civic body.
Sources said since the pandemic began, the AMC has spent Rs500 cr for various services while the state has only released Rs81 crore. Many officials that this portal talked to refused to comment on the issue. AMC officials have also held several meetings with the state government over the release of funds.
