As Gujarat awaits results of the civic body polls for the six municipal corporations on Tuesday, a state intelligence bureau report has said that AIMIM and AAP may have cornered many votes meant for the Congress. It further said that several panels of the BJP in Ahmedabad and Vadodara may not see all its candidates winning with some seats going to Congress.
Sources in the know said that many votes of the Congress particularly in minority-dominated areas have gone to the AIMIM and AAP.
If sources are to be believed, the AIMIM will emerge victorious in at least one seat in the AMC. While the BJP is likely to retain a majority in the AMC those in the know said its numbers may see a dip. It said despite winning less than what it won in 2015, the BJP will be in power thanks to the division of votes among Congress, AAP, and AIMIM in the AMC.
Reports also said that one or two wards in Rajkot believed to be a stronghold of BJP may see someone else emerge in power. Congress is expected to better its previous performance in Vadodara. The rise in voter turnout among minority communities is likely to benefit Congress.
AAP and Congress are likely to see some surprising victories in Surat while BJP’s panel may see a divided win.
