Vishal Mistry, Rajpipla: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s (AIMIM) Aurangabad MP Imtiaz Jaleel will be in Gujarat in the coming days to decide the strategy for the upcoming civic body elections in the state.
The Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) had last week said that it will join hands with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM to fight the civic body elections that will soon be taking place in Gujarat.
The BTP had said that it will not join hands with the Congress or the BJP after the two backed each other in the Dungarpur Jila Panchayat elections in Rajasthan.
BTP called both the Congress and the BJP, two sides of the same coin.
Jhagadia MLA Chhotubhai Vasava said the AIMIM and BTP will ally in the Taluka and District Panchayat elections.
Sources said Owaisi had given the responsibility of the civic body polls in Gujarat to AIMIM’s Aurangabad MP Imitaiz Jaleel.
The MP in the coming days is expected to visit Gujarat and meet BTP leaders Chhotubhai Vasava and Mahesh Vasava. The meeting is likely to see discussion on which seats the two parties will fight for.
“We plan to contest the local bodies’ elections in Gujarat in alliance with the BTP. We do not have a state unit as yet in Gujarat but there are AIMIM supporters working in places like Ahmedabad and Bharuch,” Jaleel told a news agency earlier.
Congress leader Paresh Dhanani had called the BTP-AIMIM alliance the B-team of the BJP.
He had alleged that the BJP was bringing in small parties into the fray as its own B-team.
BTP had earlier said it had invited AIMIM chief Owaisi to campaign in Gujarat for the local body elections. The party said the main motive was to defeat the Congress and the BJP.
