Ahmedabad gets rains for second consecutive day in the evening


For the second consecutive day, Ahmedabad received brief but heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning. The IMD has said that the monsoon may set in Gujarat by the end of the month. The rains on Friday helped ease the humidity and heat.

The IMD has predicted rains for Gujarat for the next four days. The state is likely to get light thundershowers in several districts of Gujarat, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli. Saurashtra is also likely to see some rain. Kutch however will continue to remain dry. Ahmedabad will continue to have a partly cloudy sky.

Rains in rest of India

The IMD said that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Goa and Maharashtra by early next week. Monsoon came to Kerala on Thursday, late by two days. It said the Southwest Monsoon has the further advanced and covered whole of Kerala, Lakshadweep, and several parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

“The monsoon is likely to further advance to remaining areas of Karnataka, more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Goa, and some parts of Maharashtra during the next two to three days,” IMD said in its forecast.

Usually, Goa and Maharashtra get monsoon by June 7 and this year too it is likely to be the same. Mumbai may see rains by June 11 by which time the whole of Maharashtra is likely to be covered by the monsoon. India’s agriculture  is dependent on the monsoon.
