In a first, Ahmedabad reports 0 COVID deaths, cases in city drop below 1000 for 2nd consecutive day


COVID cases in Gujarat registered a drop of below 5,000 on Saturday for the third consecutive day. For nine days now the total cases in Gujarat have fallen below the 10,000 mark.

The state registered 4,205 new infections per day in the last 24 hours. In all, 8,445 patients were discharged during the same period. Fifty-four deaths due to the disease were recorded in the last 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded zero and six deaths each while three deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.

All other districts except Mahisagar, Panchmahals, Anand, Junagadh, Navsari, Valsad, Gandhinagar, Narmada, Gandhinagar Corporation, Morbi, Dangs, Tapi, and Botad have registered COVID fatalities.

The state at present has 80,127 active cases of which 679 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 6,95,026 patients while the fatality stands at 9,523.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 692 cases. This was the second time since the second COVID wave began that the AMC limits saw less than 1000 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 294 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 156 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 380 and 169 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 38 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 88.57%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 7.84 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 2.31 lakh cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 1.38 lakh cases and Vadodara over 71,000 cases.

COVID vaccination status

So far 1.52 crore people have been vaccinated in the state. The state had halted vaccination for those in the 18 to 44 age group for three days and later for everyone due to cyclone Tauktae resumed the same on Thursday.

79,012 people above 45 years of age got their first shot of vaccine while 15,228 people got their second shot of vaccine on Saturday.

41,823 people in the 18-44 age group got vaccinated in the last 24 hours. In all 1.47 lakh, people were vaccinated in the state during the same period.
