Assaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM on Tuesday opened its account in Gujarat with seven candidates winning the seats from Jamalpur and Maktampura ward of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
AIMIM’s four candidates won from Jamalpur ward, while three won from Maktampura.
The party had in all contested 21 seats from different wards of Ahmedabad. Of this, AIMIM lost in Behrampura, Khadiya, and Dariyapur.
Jamalpur and Maktampura wards Muslim-dominated locality in the city. Another ward where AIMIM is contesting election is Gomtipur ward, but the results have not come in yet.
The party has fielded four candidates from the Gomtipur ward which also has a Muslim population.
The party has also put up 20 more candidates for the taluka and district panchayat elections in Modasa and Godhra Nagarpalika.
The party’s 12 candidates from Modasa and 8 from Godhra have filed their nominations for the respective nagarpalikas in the state. Both Godhra and Modasa have a large number of minority-dominated localities.
Owaisi is currently holding a public meeting in Modasa to campaign for his party for the second phase of civic polls in Gujarat.
