Gujarat records 8,920 COVID cases in a day, 94 fatalities

COVID cases in Gujarat touched 8,920 new infections per day in the last 24 hours, the highest since the pandemic began. In all 3,387 patients were discharged during the same period. Ninety-four deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded 25 and 24 cases respectively while eight cases each were recording in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot. Rajkot district, Morbi, and Surendranagar recorded five, four, and three cases respectively.

Dangs, Jamnagar district, Jamnagar Corporation, Sabarkantha, and Surat district saw two fatalities each. One death each was recorded in Ahmedabad, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Mahisagar, Mehsana, Panchmahals, Vadodara, and Valsad.

The state at present has 49,737 active cases of which 283 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,29,781 patients while the fatality stands at 5,170.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 2,842 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 1,522 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 398 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 429 and 707 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 61 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 85.73%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.84lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 95,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 83,000 cases and Vadodara over 41,000 cases.

COVID vaccination in the state

So far over 87.11 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 13.02 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 1 crore people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 74,100 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 47,571 people in the age group got the second dose of the vaccine today.

AMC limits saw 13,936 people being vaccinated in a day, the highest in the state followed by Banaskantha and Surat Corporation which vaccinated 12,562 and 10,641 people respectively.
