An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was reported from Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district early on Monday. No casualty or damage was reported from the incident. The quake had its epicentre one km East-South East of Una in the Gir Somnath district in Saurashtra.
The Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research confirmed the quake. Earlier an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude was recorded near Rajkot on July 16 last year. Last week, earthquakes were reported from Nagaland and Manipur. The one in Nagaland as per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), measured 4.2 on the Richter scale and was reported around 5 am, 74 kilometers east of Mokokchung.
The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 81 kilometers. Another earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale was reported from Manipur`s Ukhrul.
Other earthquakes in Gujarat
On February 21 this year, an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in Gujarat’s Surat on Saturday. The earthquake was recorded at 4.35 am, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).
According to ISR, the epicentre of the tremor was located 29 km north-northeast of Surat in south Gujarat. The Surat district administration clarified that no loss of life or damage to property was reported due to the earthquake.
ISR also said that the tremor was recorded at a depth of 15 km and its effect was felt in Surat city as well as its surroundings.
Notably, an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale was recorded near Surat on November 7 last year. The epicentre of the earthquake was 53 km northeast (NE) of Surat. The earthquake struck at 3:39 PM IST at a depth of 10 km from the surface. Low-intensity tremors are frequent in the area.
