256 people in Ahmedabad caught without a mask, 9 test COVID-19 positive

Nine of 256 people who were caught without a mask in Ahmedabad have tested positive for COVID-19. Six of the nine who tested positive have been moved to a hospital while three others have been put under home quarantine.

All those who were caught without a mask were also fined Rs1000 as fine. The AMC is strictly implementing the mask in public as a rule as the state records over 1400 cases every day.

The city has recorded over 300 cases in the last few days. Earlier Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had also warned that the government would take strict action against those who violate COVID-19 norms.

After the weekend curfew came to an end, crowds were seen at several places in Ahmedabad, particularly in the vegetable market in Jamalpur.

The city will now regularly see a night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am until further notice.  The government has, however, clarified that it will not impose a lockdown.

Mask rule, curfew and COVID-19

The state had earlier imposed a 57-hour curfew in Ahmedabad from Friday 9 pm to prevent the surge of a crowd during the weekend.

Later it also announced a night curfew for Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.

It has also deferred the reopening of schools. Earlier the government had announced that it will reopen classes 9 to 12 and universities from November 23 onwards. But as cases surged post-Diwali, the government has decided to defer the reopening of schools.

Congress had said that a mere 57-hour curfew will not curb the spread of the disease as long as measures are not effectively implemented.
