2 Gujarat High Court judges test positive for COVID-19


Two sitting judges of the Gujarat High Court have tested positive for COVID-19, as Ahmedabad records a surge in corona cases.

In the last few months, several employees working in different departments of the high court had tested positive, following which administrative work was suspended for a limited time.

The whole court premise was also sanitized by the AMC. The administrative work at Gujarat high court has been suspended thrice in the last eight months due to COVID-19.

Decision on physical hearing in Gujarat High Court to be taken on December 20

Gujarat High Court on November 7 had allowed the Advocate’s Chamber to be opened after Diwali vacation from November 23 onwards.

Court has also said that the decision on physical hearings will be taken in a meeting on December 20. A tentative date of January 4, 2021, was announced, which may change as per the court’s directions.

Earlier the Advocates Chambers, which is within the Gujarat High Court premises, were opened as per the odd-even formula. The court later allowed the chambers to be completely opened from November 23 following a request by the Bar Council.

Gujarat High Court had on October 26 announced live streaming of video conferencing through youtube on an experimental basis. It was the first high court in the country to live-stream its video conferencing hearing.
Almost all matters are heard through video conferencing at Gujarat High Court after the imposition of lockdown in March.
