Gujarat sees 12,545 new COVID cases, recoveries exceed new infections


COVID cases in Gujarat touched 12,545 new infections per day in the last 24 hours on Thursday. In all, 13,021 patients were discharged during the same period. 123 deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded 16 and 9 deaths each while 7 and 8 deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.

All other districts except Dahod, Panchmahals, Anand, Amreli, Kheda, Valsad, Tapi, Narmada, Botad, and Dangs have registered COVID fatalities.

The state at present has 1,47, 525 active cases of which 786 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 4,90,412 patients while the fatality stands at 8,035.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 3,884 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 1,039 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 388 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 638 and 526 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 143 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 75.92%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 6.43 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 1.92 lakh cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 1.24 lakh cases and Vadodara over 55,000 cases.

COVID vaccination status

The state saw over 1.01 crore people getting the first dose of the COVID vaccine while 28.69 lakh people have got the second dose of the vaccine. In all 1.30 crore people have got the vaccine so far.

27,776 people in the 18 to 44 year age group got vaccinated in the last 24 hours. 37,609 people above 45 years of age got the first dose of the vaccine while 1.09 lakh people got the second dose of vaccine.

The registration for COVID vaccination for those in 18 to 45 years of age is now open in the CoWin app. Spot registration is not available to people in this age category. Private hospitals, state governments, and others are directly purchasing the vaccine from the manufacturer for this age group.
