In a bid to restrict the footfall of citizens and lawyers in the Gujarat High Court during the ongoing coronavirus chaos, the high court administration on Tuesday successfully implemented the video conferencing-based hearing of cases, as well as soft copy filing of matters.

Chief Justice Vikram Nath had earlier directed the registry to switch to soft copy filing of matters and video conferencing-based hearing of cases using the Zoom Cloud Meeting portal. Implementing the same, all the matters listed in the high court on Tuesday were taken up for hearing through video-conferencing. Judgments were also pronounced through video conferencing.

Advocates said the method of initiating the video conference call and joining the same was user friendly.

“Whenever a particular matter was taken up for hearing, through a specially developed programme by the IT Cell of the high court, the server sent an automatically generated SMS to all the advocates of the matte containing a link for them to join the conference call,” said high court’s registrar (IT) AT Ukrani.

While implementing the system, it has been ensured that no lawyer or party-in-person is required to enter the court premises, he added.
