Gandhinagar: Over 10,800 gram panchayats of Gujarat will go to polls on December 19, the state election commission announced on Monday. These include general elections as well as by-elections necessitated by delimitation or any other event.
The last date for candidates to fill the forms is December 4, while the deadline for scrutiny of forms is December 6 and to withdraw nomination is December 7.
The counting will be held on December 21.
Voting will be open from 7 am to 6 pm. It will be done through ballot.
The model code of conduct in these gram panchayat areas came into effect on Monday, November 22.
According to the SEC, elections will be held for the post of sarpanch of 10,284 panchayat as well 89,702 wards.
Also, by-elections will be held for seats rendered vacant in gram panchayat with over a year of tenure still left.
