Following the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Gujarat government has extended the night curfew in four major cities of the state by another 15 days. The night curfew is applicable in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.
Notably, the night curfew was applicable till February 28. The government in an official statement said that the night curfew has been extended by another 15 days due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in four municipal corporations.
So far, the night curfew has been extended five times since it was implemented in November 2020 following the surge in COVID-19 cases post-Diwali.
While the night curfew has been extended five times, the period under night curfew has been reduced. Earlier, night curfew was applicable from 10 pm to 6 am. Now, after two revisions, it is applicable from midnight to 6 am.
Third phase of COVID-19 vaccination in Gujarat
The third phase of COVID vaccination which will begin on March 1 in Gujarat will cover senior citizens above the age of 60 and those above 40 years with severe medical conditions.
Gujarat deputy chief minister Nitin Patel who also has the health portfolio, in a tweet, said that in Gujarat the vaccination will be free at government facilities while a single dose of vaccination will cost Rs 250 in approved private clinics.
Patel in the tweet said that the Centre has fixed the per dose COVID vaccine price at Rs150 if it is administered at private hospitals. Patients will also have to pay Rs 100 as a processing fee. This means the per-dose vaccine charge will come to Rs 250.
He said those who opt for vaccination at government facilities will get it for free.
The COVID vaccination programme has so far covered health care workers (corona warriors) and frontline workers. According to the health ministry’s data, 8.33 lakh people have taken the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, whereas 1.67 lakh people have taken the second dose.
