- Shortly after Centre reduced excise duty on the fuels, states like Gujarat, Assam, Goa, Karnataka, Uttarakhand too reduced VAT on petrol and diesel
Gandhinagar: Gujaratis woke up to a special gift from the Centre and the state governments. After the Centre reduced excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 10, the Gujarat government announced that it would reduce the value added tax (VAT) on the two fuels by Rs 7.
Thus overall, petrol will now be cheaper by Rs 12 and diesel by Rs 17 in Gujarat.
“CM Shri @Bhupendrapbjp has also decided to reduce VAT by Rs 7 on Petrol and Diesel in the state, effective from midnight today, resulting in overall reduction of Rs 12 in the price of Petrol and Rs 17 in the price of Diesel for Gujarat,” the CMO tweeted on Wednesday night.
Gujarat is not the only state to jump onto the bandwagon. Governments in states like Karnataka, Assam, Goa, Tripura and Uttarakhand, too, brought down their tax by up to Rs 7 in their respective states.
The reduction in taxes, coming amid constantly rising prices of the two fuels, has come as a major relief to the public.
