Gujarat sees 4,021 COVID cases in a day, 35 deaths; A’bad gets over 900 cases


COVID cases in Gujarat reached a whopping 4021 new COVID infections in the last 24 hours while 2,197 patients were discharged during the same period. Thirty five deaths due to the disease were recorded during the same period.

Fourteen deaths each were reported from Surat Municipal Corporation and eight from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits. Two fatalities each were recorded from Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Rajkot district.

Ahmedabad district, Amreli, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Mehsana and Vadodara recorded one death each du to the disease

The state at present has 20,473 active cases of which 182 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,07,346 patients while the fatality stands at 4,655.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 951 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 723 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 237 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 397 and 427 cases respectively.  State capital Gandhinagar recorded 39 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 92.44%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.24 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 76,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 69,000 cases and Vadodara over 36,000 cases.

The state said it has added 12000 beds for COVID patients across the state through various COVID care centres.

COVID vaccination in the state

So far over 74.04 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 9.27 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 83 lakh people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 2.17 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 47,100 people in the age group got the second dose of vaccine today. Vaccination for those above 45 years of age has begun from April 1 onwards.

Banaskantha saw 26,480 COVID vaccines being given in a day, the highest in Gujarat. Surat Municipal Corporation had vaccinated 17,373 people while Ahmedabad Corporation limits saw 19,549 people getting the shots.
