Gujarat’s Covid-19 case tally drops, but deaths surge

  • 25 patients succumb to Covid-19 in Gujarat; 13,805 persons test positive during the day

Gandhinagar: The daily tally of Covid-19 cases in Gujarat has been dropping since reaching its peak four days ago. However, the death toll continues to rise.

A total of 13,805 tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday evening, nearly 44 per cent drop from 24,485 on January 20. On the other hand, the death toll has nearly doubled from 13 on January 20 to 25 on Monday.

The death toll due to Covid-19 in Gujarat has reached 10,274.


Less than 5k cases in Ahmedabad

The daily tally of cases in Ahmedabad city further reduced to 4,361, followed by Vadodara city with 2,534, Surat city 1,136 and Rajkot city 889.

Vadodara rural recorded 721, Gandhinagar city 325, Bhavnagar city 295, Kutch 282, Morbi 267, Rajkot rural 260, Patan 242, Surat rural 238 and Mehsana 231.

Bharuch had 190 new cases, Navsari 160, Banaskantha 156, Anand 150, Gandhinagar rural 148, Valsad 141, Jamnagar city 140, Surendranagar 113 and Amreli 109.

The remaining cities have less than 100 cases.


6 deaths in Ahmedabad city

Of the 25 deaths, Ahmedabad city accounted for 6, Vadodara, Surat and Jamnagar cities 3 each, Rajkot city 2, Vadodara rural, Bhavnagar city, Kutch, Surat rural, Mehsana, Valsad, Panchmahals and Bhavnagar rural 1 each.


86.49% recovery rate; active caseload at 1.35 lakh

After several days, the number of recoveries was quite close to the count of new cases. In last 24 hours, as many as 13,469 patients recovered from the infection, taking the overall recovery to 9.30 lakh, or 86.49 per cent of the cases recorded in Gujarat till now.


1.7 lakh vaccinated on Monday

A total of 1,70,290 individuals received the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday. The cumulative vaccination figure has crossed 9.65 crore.
