Gujarat’s daily tally of Covid-19 nears 10k, cases at 8-month high

  • 9,941 fresh cases of Covid, 4 deaths in Gujarat on Wednesday; active caseload over 43k

Gandhinagar: The daily tally of Covid-19 cases in Gujarat neared the mark of 10,000. In 24 hours ending 5 pm on Wednesday, the state recorded 9,941 new cases of the infection. This is the highest since May 14 when there were 9,991 cases during the day.

Four patients lost their lives to the infection, the highest single-day death toll since June 20 last year when as many deaths had been recorded in the state. With this, the death toll in the state rose to 10,137.

 

4 major cities account for 75% cases

The maximum number of cases has been recorded in four major cities of Gujarat, viz. Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. Ahmedabad city reported 3,843 cases and Surat city 2,505. Vadodara city reported 776 cases, Rajkot city 319. The total of these four cities is 7,443.

Surat rural recorded 265, Valsad 218, Bharuch 217, Gandhinagar city 150, Navsari 147, Bhavnagar city 130, Kutch 105 and Morbi 102.

Anand recorded 98 cases, Gandhinagar rural and Kheda 94 each, Vadodara rural 86, Jamnagar city 77, Mehsana 63, Ahmedabad rural 61, Devbhumi Dwarka and Rajkot rural 56 each, Banaskanthan 53, Patan 49, Junagadh city 39, Gir Somnath 38, Sabarkantha 35, Surendranagar 34, Dahod 30, Amreli, Bhavnagar rural and Panchmahals 26 each, Jamnagar rural 24, Mahisagar and Narmada 20 each, Tapi 19, Porbandar 14, Junagadh rural 11, Aravalli 7, Dangs 5, Botad 2 and Chhota Udepur 1.

Gujarat did not report any new case of Omicron during the day. The tally stands at 264, of which 238 have been discharged.

4 deaths in Gujarat

Surat city accounted for two of the four deaths in the state. Valsad and Rajkot rural reported one death each.

 

Recovery rate at 94.92%, active caseload over 43.7k

A total of 3,449 patients recovered from Covid-19 during the day. The overall recovery has crossed 8.31 crore. The recovery rate in Gujarat has dropped below 94 per cent and currently stands at 93.92 per cent.

The active caseload has soared to 43,726 active cases, of which 51 patients are on ventilator.

 

3.02 lakh vaccinated on Wednesday

A total of 3,02,033 individuals received the Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday. Of these, 1.01 lakh received the precaution dose, while 46,650 were aged between 15 and 18. The overall vaccination figure in the state has crossed 9.41 crore.
