Gujarat Civic Polls: BJP, Congress supporters clash at Gujarat College

The counting of votes has started for the elections of 6 municipal corporations of Gujarat. While the BJP is moving towards a majority in the initial trends, there are reports of clashes between BJP and Congress workers at Gujarat College.

Counting of votes for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is going on at Gujarat College. However, the BJP and Congress workers present entered into an altercation and clash.

Congress workers alleged that BJP workers were going to the counting centre with mobile phones. They said that when they raised objections against the same, BJP workers clashed with them.

Congress workers alleged that the police were not stopping BJP workers from doing so because of the party being in power. After the matter came to light, the police reached the spot and pacified the supporters of both parties.

Notably, after the rumour of tampering in EVMs spread late last night, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party workers thronged Gujarat College and LD Engineering College where counting of votes was scheduled.

The supporters of both parties resorted to sloganeering. After receiving information regarding the incident, senior police officials reached the spot. The police assured that surveillance is being done with CCTV cameras and there is no way that the EVMs can be tampered with.
