Gujarat Civic Elections: Woman who will embrace the life of a Jain monk casts vote

Voting is going on today for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats in Gujarat. Long queues were seen outside polling booths across the state. Even brides and bridegrooms too exercised their franchise ahead of getting married.

In Panchmahal, a young woman, who is going to renounce the materialistic world and embrace life as a Jain monk on March 3, arrived at a polling booth and exercised her franchise.

Kanchi Shah, a girl from Godhra in Panchmahal district, exercised her franchise. The interesting thing is that Kanchi Shah is leaving the materialistic world on March 3 and is going to adopt the path of salvation.

Only two days are left for her to spend with family, but in the midst of all this, she took time out for her democratic duty and has set an example for people.

Gujarat: Voter turnout status

According to the latest information, the highest voter turnout of 50.58 per cent has been recorded for taluka panchayat elections. This apart, 48.21 per cent polling has been recorded in the district panchayat elections and 43.56 per cent in the municipality elections.

Voting for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluk panchayats started at 7 am on Sunday. The results for the election will be declared on March 2. State Election Commission officials said that voting is being held for a total of 8,473 seats. These include 2,720 seats in municipalities, 980 seats in district panchayats and 4,773 seats in taluka panchayats.
