The counting for the second phase of Gujarat civic body polls is underway and from the results that are emerging it seems the voters have said no to dynasty rule. Several top leaders’ relatives who were put up as candidates have lost the election.
Congress MLA Niranjan Patel who was a candidate in the Petlad nagarpalika’s Ward no 3 and 5 lost from both seats in the polls. In Anand district panchayat’s Tarapur seat, MLA Poonam Parmar’s nephew Nikunj has also lost the polls.
MLA Ashwin Kotwal son who was contesting the polls also lost his seat. In Dwarka, Congress MLA Vikram Madam’s son also faced defeat in the civic body elections.
Chhotu Vasava’s son lost with a margin of 2000 votes to BJP’s candidate from Pardi seat in the district panchayat elections.
In the second phase, elections were held for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats.
The BJP has already registered a thumping victory in the six municipal corporation elections held on February 21. BJP has won 483 of the 576 seats in these six municipal corporations that include Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar.
