Gujarat: 14,296 COVID-19 cases, 157 deaths in a day


Gujarat has reported 14,296 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken Gujarat’s total tally past 4.96 lakh. It is the second-highest single-day surge in cases since the pandemic began last year.

6,328 COVID-19 related deaths in Gujarat

157 deaths were reported in the state in the past 24 hours. The fresh fatalities have taken Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll to 6,328.  While 29 deaths were reported each from Ahmedabad, Surat reported 27deaths. 18 deaths have been reported from Vadodara, 14 deaths have been reported from Rajkot and four deaths from Surendranagar. Gandhinagar reported six deaths, Jamnagar reported 13 deaths and Bharuch reported four deaths.

5,864 fresh cases in Ahmedabad, 2,103 in Surat

Of the 14,296 fresh cases reported on Sunday, 5,864 cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, 2,103 cases have been reported from Surat, 760 cases have been reported from Vadodara, and 289 cases have been reported from the state capital Gandhinagar.

This apart, Rajkot has reported 676 cases, Bhavnagar has reported 379 cases, Mehsana 598 cases, and Jamnagar 674 cases.

Meanwhile, Junagarh has reported 251 fresh cases of the virus, whereas the tribal district of Panchamahals has reported 87 fresh cases. Dahod has reported 182 cases, Amreli 82 cases and Kheda 143 cases.

Similarly, Bharuch has reported 117 cases, Valsad has reported 109 cases, Anand 119 cases, and Patan reported 163 cases.

With the addition of the fresh cases, the total COVID-19 case tally in Ahmedabad has increased to 1,38,346. The total tally has reached 1,04,561 in Surat, 47,230 in Vadodara, and 12,957 in Gandhinagar.

3.74 lakh COVID-19 patients discharged so far

According to the health department, there are over 1.15 lakh active cases of the virus in Gujarat. Of this, 406 patients are critical and have been put on ventilator support. So far, 3.74 lakh patients have been discharged in the state after being treated for the viral infection. In fact, 6,727 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours.
