Gujarat records 12,753 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths in 24 hours


Gadhinagar: The holiday weekend is over. Covid-19 cases in Gujarat are rising again. In 24 hours ending Monday evening, Gujarat recorded 12,753 fresh cases of infection. This is the highest single-day tally since May 5 when there were 12,955 cases. It is thus a 257-day high.

Five patients succumbed to the infection during this period.

The active caseload of Covid in Gujarat has reached 70,374.


67% cases in 3 major cities

Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara cities accounted for 8,502 cases, or 66.67 per cent, of Gujarat’s tally for the day.

Ahmedabad city had 4,340 cases, Surat city 2,955 and Vadodara city 1,207.

Surat rural recorded 464 cases, Rajkot city 461, Valsad 340, Navsari 300, Bharuch 284, Gandhinagar city 212 and Jamnagar city 210.

The other cities recorded less than 200 cases.


Recovery rate below 92%

A total of 5,954 patients recovered from Covid-19 on Monday.  The recovery rate has continued to drop, having reached 91.42 per cent on Monday.


2.63 lakh vaccinated

A total of 2,63,593 persons received the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday. Of these, 69,244 received the precaution dose, while 58,291 were aged between 15 and 18 years.

There are reports of likelihood of vaccination for children aged 12-14 from February-end of March this year. According to the reports, the target is to fully vaccinate all eligible children in the age group of 15-18 by then.
