Gujarat on Friday recorded 326 new cases of Covid19 and 22 more deaths. Ahmedabad had the highest number of new cases at 267 followed by Surat which recorded 26 cases. The state has in all recorded 4721 cases of which 36 are on ventilators. The total number of deaths in the state due to the disease is 236 while 736 patients have been discharged.
It should be noted that Gujarat has the second highest number of cases and deaths in India after Maharashtra and has a high death rate due to Covid19. Among the 30 affected districts, Ahmedabad leads in the number of cases and deaths. The city has so far seen 3,293 cases and 165 deaths due to the disease. Most of the cases in Gujarat is concentrated in the three districts of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat with all three recording cases in three digits. The three also led in the number of deaths. The three districts alone account for 212 of the 236 deaths recorded in the state. This means 89% of all the deaths due to Covid19 have been reported from these three districts. Over 40,000 people in the state are under home quarantine while 3,600 and 145 are in government and private quarantine facilities.
