The Gujarat government is likely to seek more relaxations from the Centre under unlock 2.0. The unlock 1.0 will come to an end on June 30. The state wants the Centre to give more relaxations under unlock 2.0 that will come into force from July 1 onwards. This comes after representation by several sectors to the state government seeking extension in timings to keep shops open as well as reduction in night curfew.
The state has also received some complaints about alleged police harassment for keeping shops open beyond the permissible limit. The Centre had allowed some relaxation after the 82-day lockdown but shops cannot remain open beyond 7 pm while a night curfew is in place from 9 pm to 5 am.
Most of the complaints have come from restaurants and other eateries who say closing down by 7 pm is affecting their business, as most people prefer to eat out in the evening. Media reports said they wanted the time restrictions to go amid ensuring social distancing norms are maintained.
