The Gujarat government in a release said that the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) Exams scheduled to be held from Thursday onwards has been cancelled. The government said that the exams have been postponed as per the Centre’s instruction. The students had earlier been protesting against the scheduled exams demanding that they be postponed in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
Despite the opposition, earlier the Gujarat government had allowed universities and colleges to conduct the examination. The state said that the revised dates for the exams will be announced later. Earlier, the state government had while going ahead with the examination cited an opinion poll of students of GTU in which over 54,000 had wanted the exams to be held as they needed the certificates to pursue a job or higher education.
Later GTU had given an option for classroom examination, online examination and an offer to appear for the exams once COVID-19 situation was brought under control. It had also offered to provide online examination for candidates who lived in micro containment zones.
