After the UGC revised its guidelines announcing compulsory exams for final-year students the education department in Gujarat has asked all universities and higher educational institutes to conduct the exams for final year students by September 30, 2020. It has given them the option to conduct the exams either online, offline or both depending on thier their convenience.
The UGC had made the final year exams mandatory for all universities on the basis of recommendations of an internal committee. The exams were to be conducted by the end of September. It also issued a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to all universities on conducting the exam.
The state government said that the universities can use the offline method (pen and paper) online method (on a computer or laptop or any other device) or even a blended mode (a combination of pen and paper and computer) to conduct the final year exams.
It asked them to comply by the UGC deadline of September 30. It should be noted that on July 1 the state government had cancelled all university exams citing COVID-19 concerns but the UGC’s guidelines forced the state to reverse its decision. Gujarat on Thursday recorded over 800 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
