As the civic body battle gears up, leaders from all the parties including the BJP are out campaigning for their respective sides.
During one such campaign in Surat, BJP MLA Vinod Moradiya was faced with some tough questions by a youth. His supporters allegedly bashed him up for asking uncomfortable questions and he landed in jail for the same.
The BJP MLA along with the panel members for ward no 8 had gone to seek votes near Haridarshan Khaada in Katargam when the angry residents pelted the leader with uncomfortable questions.
As the candidates and MLA appealed for votes, a local youth questioned them as to why the roads leading to his society had not been repaired despite several representations. The youth had said that the leaders had disappeared during the COVID pandemic and that common people were penalised when they did not follow the mask rule.
He pointed out that the leaders, including the MLA who came to seek votes, had not worn a mask and who were going to penalise them?
The uncomfortable questions allegedly angered the MLA and the party workers who beat up the youth. They also filed a complaint against the youth and he was made to sit in the police station for the entire night, local reports said.
The civic body polls in the state will be held in two phases – election for six municipal corporations along with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on February 21, and polls for 81 corporations, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka panchayats will be held on February 28.
