The state government is likely to allow travel between Surat and Saurashtra in the coming days. Secretary CMO, Ashwani Kumar in an online briefing said that at present no permission has been given for movement of people from Surat to the various districts of Saurashtra.
He said that Surat which is the diamond hub has a large population of people from the Saurashtra region particularly in the diamond industry and many of them wanted to return to their native place. “The government may soon come out with a guideline for movement between the two regions. We are thinking about this and preparing a strategy for the same,” Kumar said in the briefing.
He said as and when the movement is allowed, it will be carried out in a phased manner as the government is concerned about the possibility of large scale spread of the infection. “We also need to plan and arrange for the transportation,” Kumar said. He said people who will eventually be allowed to travel to Saurashtra from Surat will have to undergo medical screening and those found to have symptoms such as fever will not be allowed to travel. On reaching the destination, the passengers will have to go into a quarantine for 14 days and will not be allowed to return to Surat for a period of one month.
